Old Bridge (Stari Most), is a work of Ottoman-Turkish architecture and designed by Mimar Hajruddin. Construction began in 1557 and took nine years. The bridge is 30 meters long and has an arch 24 meters high. With its elegance, rising above the Neretva River, it adorns this part of the city and leaves an unforgettable impression to all who visit it. Old Bridge was also the victim of the ’90s war. It was completely demolished on November 9, 1993. Between 2001 and 2004, the bridge was completely reconstructed and most of the original stone could be rescued and pulled from the bottom of the Neretva River, to form part of the Old Bridge again. Stylish in its simplicity, Stari Most represents a very important historical value for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After you visit it, you will see for yourself the beauty of the bridge, and beauty of the old part of the city that surrounds it. In the old part of town, you will have the opportunity to buy handmade souvenirs and other handicrafts from local craftsmen.
